Crushed corners come from movement
Box corners get crushed when boxes shift and grind against each other, a zipper, or the floor of a car. The single biggest upgrade over a tote bag is a padded, compartmented bag that keeps each box upright and separated so nothing slides. Carrying boxes flat rather than on their corners also spreads the load and protects the most vulnerable edges.
Lock the components down before you go
A box that rattles will arrive as a shuffled, mixed-up pile. Keep components in place in transit.
- A fitted insert that holds components against the lid is the best protection.
- A rubber band around the whole box stops the lid lifting and contents shifting.
- Zip bags for loose tokens prevent small pieces from migrating between trays.
- For sleeved decks, a deck box or band keeps cards from spilling across the box.
Match the bag to how you travel
If you mostly walk or bike to game night, a padded backpack keeps your hands free and your back protected. If you drive, a larger duffel-style game bag carries more boxes and often includes dividers. For a single game, a fitted carrying case is the most protective. Buy for your most common trip, not the rare big-haul night.
Pack heavy on the bottom, fragile on top
Just like groceries: heavy boxes go at the bottom so they don't crush lighter ones, and anything with delicate standees or a fragile lid goes on top. Fill empty space so boxes can't slide during the drive, and keep the bag upright rather than tossing it flat in a trunk where it can tip and shift.
