Wingspan Insert & Organization Guide

Stonemaier Games · 2019

Wingspan has a lot of small parts — a large bird-card deck, bonus cards, egg minis, food tokens in five types, and dice — that need to stay separated. The good news is Stonemaier shipped it with a real solution, so the 'problem' is mostly about sleeved cards and expansion overflow.

The box it comes in

The factory insert is genuinely good

The retail box includes the well-regarded GameTrayz plastic set — a swift-start card tray plus lidded component trays that stay organized in transit. Widely cited as one of the better in-box inserts, though sleeved cards only barely fit the stock card tray.

Your options

Already included and genuinely good for unsleeved play; the card tray gets tight once cards are sleeved and it doesn't leave room for both expansions at once.

Many printable food-token trays, card holders, and full replacements; a common upgrade for owners who add third-party resource tokens.

Sleeve fit varies

Sleeved cards & the insert

Reviewers consistently note sleeved cards 'barely fit' the stock GameTrayz card tray. If you sleeve, the Folded Space FS-WINGv2 card trench gives clear room; the stock tray works but is snug.

The verdict

Most owners are fine keeping the excellent stock GameTrayz insert — it's one of the reasons Wingspan gets singled out. Only upgrade to Folded Space if you sleeve your cards or want the base game plus both expansions consolidated in one box.
